Do you waste more time obsessing about what needs to be done instead of just doing it? It’s time you either put on your big girl panties, or lace up your Nike’s and Just Do It.
There may be lots of things that make a task difficult to complete. But the hardest part of any journey is the first step. We can make a deal bigger than it is, or get tripped up on our lack of experience, and the lack of resources can seem like a deal breaker. But as my Grandfather says, “the hardest part is getting off the couch”.
Newtons law states, “a thing in motion tends to stay in motion and a thing at rest tends to stay at rest.” I actually have proof of this. You should see me trying to get out of bed in the morning. I can definitely vouch that a thing at rest tends to stay at rest. Starting the movement in the right direction is the hardest element on your road to success because you are trying to put yourself in motion. Have you ever tried to push a stalled car? The part that takes the most effort is getting the car to start moving. Once it is moving, then the momentum takes over and not only is it easier to keep it going but it is also easier to steer. (oooooh, now there is a life metaphor that deserves it very own blog post).
You may not have the path completely planned out, but if you have the vision or goal in you, then do one thing today that will get your momentum going. Don’t leave the spot you are sitting until you do something towards the goal. Check out a website or research on Google, leave yourself a voicemail as a reminder, or call someone who can help or mentor you. Do something now. Remember, the hardest part is just to start. Stop thinking about all the things you need to make it happen, just do the first thing.
It is often quoted that it takes somewhere between 20 and 30 days to have a discipline become a habit. If you want to make a change, start something new, or just “get off the couch”, check out this site: www.first30days.com
